1. What inspires you/your band to write the music you make?
Well, the band is new, so there isn't all that baggage that comes when you have
been playing in the same group for a long time. A few of us have been playing
together for a long time (over a decade now), but fresh blood brought into the
mix really helps the music along, creatively. Apart from that, most bandmates
would say it is women that inspire the music, but I'm inclined to believe that
women inspire more rock and roll poses that actual music.
2. What are you currently up to in the music industry?
Basically, we are keeping busy pushing LURE. We've been involved in a number
of projects over the years and we're going to apply everything we've learned to
see what happens with this one.
3. Give us a little background of your career in music?
As a band, we're new but as individuals, we've done a lot. As players, we've
toured Canada and Australia, played all types of music (from bluegrass to hard-core),
acted as promoters, producers, session players and studio engineers, and served
in a host of other roles. If there was something needing to be done, at some time,
one of us has most likely done it.
4. Who have you/your band been listening to lately?
Dillinger Escape Plan, Tortoise, King Cobb Steelie, Zeppelin, old fold stuff,
Robert Randolph, Radiohead, and a lot of the old Motown recordings
5. Where do you love to play?
Outside. Inside. Everywhere. As much as possible.
6. Tell us about your live show.
Two squabling wingers, two stone defencemen, dancing bodies. That's about it.
7. Tell us about a great gig experience you've had.
Three days before our first show at the Ottawa Tulip Festival we decided to go
to my cottage to write more tunes. At this point we only had five. We ended up
with a set list of 13 tunes, 10 of which were ours. It was the fastest song writing
any of us had ever been involved in and they are great tunes. We pulled off a
great show that night with most of our set never played live before. The crowd
was smallish, but EVERY one of those people has come out to every show since (and
some of them aren't family or friends.
8. What are your musical plans for the future?
Ryan is going to quit being a boy doctor helper and become a rock star. We all
want to be touring Canada, touring other lands and getting paid. Lure will have
a couple of albums released by the end of the year.
9. Who are some artists/bands you'd like to play shows/tour with?
Rant Music, any acts on Coqi Records; Daiquiri; Kurtosis; Rheostatics, King Cobb
Steelie, Ani Difranco, Wilco, and my ultimate would be to tour stadiums with Pink
Floyd,,,hahaha ... for a little while, play huge festivals in Europe, Glastonbury,
and play in warm places too. Headline a week in Whistler and ski everyday - planned
around the heaviest snowfallls.
10. Which artists would you like to collaborate with in the future?
Wilco, Rheostatics, Burt Neilson band, Ben Harper, umm,ah, hell. Just read back
over these answers, and you'll get a picture. That doesn't mean we only want to
collaborate with the big names. Playing and making music with cool people is about
as good as it gets. I guess the ultimate answer is that we'd like to collaborate
with cool people |
